When a band makes a dramatic shift in the tone of their music, there’s no guarantee that it will be for the better.  Luckily, Cleveland’s Lighthouse and the Whaler have shed their more downtrodden, acoustic style for what appears to be lighthearted indie pop with Pioneers, the first single off their upcoming sophomore album, This is an Adventure.  The title of the new album alone indicates that we are listening to a band ready to embrace the excitement of the unknown as opposed to the pain of what has been.  Pioneers has a shimmering synth piano, clacking drums and Michael LoPresti’s impassioned declarations which has the group exploring new emotional territory.  Enjoy.
