It’s no secret that I have a weakness for female rockers. It definitely helps when one fronts a riotous rock band that creates sounds which are the musical equivalent of getting shot out of a cannon. Balconies, a trio of Ottowa rockers led by Jacquie Neville, beat rhythms to a bloody pulp while ripping through tracks with serrated guitars and a thumping bass. When Balconies first emerged, they were primarily riding the indie pop wave, but their 2012 EP, Kill Count, veers off track, embracing white knuckle rock that doesn’t completely shed its pop roots. Balconies is working on a new album, so listen to Kill Count and study up.

When and Where:
When you wanna rage and get tossed around like a rag doll. That’s not really for me, though. I bruise easily.
